Note - This Review has Spoilers
Everyone's favourite spider-man has arrived and has hit the theaters already. Swinging through the hearts from the likes of children to young blood to grandfathers, it has managed to capture the cheers all over again. There is no doubt about that. But since this is my review I would like to take a more sophisticated and an honest take on the movie. I liked the film no doubt. Its definitely a pop-corn blockbuster but more than that it has lot to offer and also many things where it missed the mark..more on that later. Let's begin
Well to begin with, let me clarify that Spider-man remains one of my favourite superheroes since childhood. Not one of them, it is actually the most favourite one. I have seen Spiderman only in animated media and comics where the red and blue suit fascinated me a lot. It's only time when Sam Raimi brought Spider-man to life on such a huge canvas and it was a big success, his fantastic run with Tobey Maguire playing Spider-man ended with Spiderman 3. And then followed Marc Webb's version of Spidi featuring Andrew Garfiled. The first movie was pretty impressive to say the least but the second one skipped a beat but still was a decent watch and now Sony has again re-invented the franchise bringing Tom Holland as Spiderman in Spider-man Homecoming. There is no confusion that Spiderman has already made an appearance in Captain America : Civil War and now featuring in his solo movie. It's quite an idea by Sony to put Spider-man directly in MCU universe and their gamble played off well.
Let me say this ! Spider-man homecoming is a good film no doubt. The fans gonna love with critics also ga ga going over it. I personally enjoyed the movie too and I don't think there is anything precisely to be critical about. However, all in all I would say, it's a decent watch. It's definitely a good movie but don't expect surprises. Just expect popcorn entertainment and you wouldn't complain at all. My only point is that the film doesn't offer anything new or throw surprises. It's all about 'been there...seen it already' hangover that you go through the entire movie. but on the positive side, you would not complain because the film is fun. One more thing here that Spiderman is dominated by Robert Downey Jr. who appears in a cameo yet a very poignant one. Definitely, it's a smart move by the producers to attract more eyeballs. Tom Holland makes a great Spiderman err...calling him Spider-Boy would be apt though. His innocence strikes the right balance between vulnerability and uncompromising strength. As Peter Parker too, he exhibits great charm. Watch him in the scenes where he comes back to his usual life after his suit being taken away and trying to be normal. And the scene where he gets in huge trouble and reminded by Iron Man's words to gain strength and fight back. Those scenes are amazingly executed.
The supporting cast is also superb to say the least. Jacob Batalon rocks as Peter's best overweight gamer best friend 'Ned'. He is also an expert in computer hacking. His charm is infectious as such that he practically steals every scene he is in. Marisa Tomei as May Parker as Efficient and so as Zendaya playing Michelle "MJ" Jones. However, you would wish her character had more to explore. The cinematography is brilliant. The action scenes are picturized very well particularly the fight scene between Spidi and Vulture just in the second hour.
The VFX of every action film have a lot of significance and this movie is no different. With lots of special effects it scores full marks. The fans and those who are not fans shall love it. And about the action who wouldn't love Iron Man and Spider-man coming together saving the day. However, the fight scene during the climax went overstretched and could have been a little more better. The film could have explored another dimensions of Spiderman we hadn't seen before but it sticks to the basic plot we have seen in other movies. This movie deals about how the teen Spidi gets in trouble understanding his powers and later mastering them Micheal Keaton is riveting as Vulture. So good to see him in a blockbuster movie after a long time. And he doesn't disappoint at all. Well known for playing the heroic Batman. He infuses the right amount of creepiness in Vulture however like in the most descriptions given about his character, he actually does not have criminal tendencies. (SPOILER AHEAD) One of the biggest disappointment of the film comes at the climax where Spiderman easily nails him down and he's sort of giving up finally and you know...that jars a bit that a man who can do anything to give good life to his family would be defeated only to get humiliated for the rest of his life. I mean this movie deserved a better climax. This is what I feel.
Spiderman is fun and that's it. There are no morals of using powers and responsibility, very little drama and hardly any scope of melodrama. The film offers entertainment, entertainment and entertainment. And if this is what you have been looking for. Do not Miss it at all.
