Wishing everyone a very happy and Merry Christmas. May the festival brings new joy and unparalleled happiness in your lives and fills it with positivism and prosperity
For some reason, the interview on website 'Merinews' that got published last week has been removed or temporarily unavailable. I have been getting a lot of messages on the same. So I have decided to put the interview on my blog. You can check the entire interview here ?
The International Science Film Festival held at Chennai was an amazing experience. It was held at Anna University at Sardar Patel Road. The festival began from 14th October and ended on 16th of October 2017. This was my second trip to Chennai. The first I came to this city in 2011 when my animation film 'Save Trees' was screened at EGA Theatre in International Short Film Festival of India. You can say I was revisiting nostalgia.
I met a lot of young people, new aspiring filmmakers. It was a treat to interact with all. I made some good friends. There were many great science films that were showcased. I enjoyed every bit of it. For a Filmmaker, there can nothing be better than a film festival. Apart from great films, there were sessions, workshops by renowned scientists and regional filmmakers. The two days passed with a flow like a dream swift off through the eyelid.
The film festival was organized by Vigyan Prasar. The science division from Government of India that organizes film festivals based on science every year. One of my film was screened in their festival earlier this year in Kolkata. Like everything there is always two sides of a coin, All in all the festival went very well but it was not without flaws. Some arrangements needed to be Improved and so as transportation but then again, it is the part of travelling. The experience was good overall and that is what that matters.

I was recently Interviewed with this great fan site of X-men. Xmen is one of my favourite movie franchises and they are the source of inspirations in some of my movies. My science fiction based films have always few elements that resemble with the concept of X-men in some way or the other. X-men has made my childhood amazing and even in my adulthood I am drawn towards its spirit of power. Check out the Interview for now.

Today we’re having a chat with Varun Mehta, who’s the founder of X-Men Films Fan Club India @xmenmoviesindia. He is a very passionate X-Men fan that loves all the films and has strong opnions about the strengths and weaknesses of 20th Century Fox’s mutant series.
XMFC: Hello, Varun! First off, I just want to say thank you for taking the time to answer some of my questions about your fandom for X-Men films. It’s awesome being able to interview fans from across the globe. How did you first become familiar with the X-Men?
VARUN: “I was introduced to X-Men through the animated series. Then I bought the comics to know more about the characters and then of course the X-Men films. My first X-Men memory was the one of the amazing episodes from X-Men battling the Brotherhood in the animated series.”
Do you find yourself relating the X-Men in any way? It seems many fans have a personal connection to the characters and what they represent.
“Yes, I can relate to the X-Men story in a lot of ways. The story of X-Men is touching. It’s not the usual superhero stuff about saving the world. It’s the theme of mutants fighting for survival against the human race, also the Brotherhood of Mutants who completely hate the humans. Mutants are seen as a threat to the human race as they are different. They are regarded with fear and anxiety, which is true to real life. Anyone who feels they are gifted or different and won’t be easily accepted by society can relate to the story of X-Men and that’s why the story is so relatable and amazing.”
That was such a great answer and you’re completely right about how relatable it is. I see that you run @xmenmoviesindia, with a focus towards the fan base in India. I think it’s a great page and I really enjoy seeing how X-Men is loved by people in every country. What do you think of X-fans?
“I have just created a fan club on Twitter as I saw there was not much fan clubs of X-Men from India, although I can assure you that there is a huge fan base in the country. But people are not really active in discussions, so I am trying to bring the world closer. The community is absolutely wonderful. I can see the fans are so hardworking and contributing for X-Men.”
Which characters do you like the most? Do you have an absolute favorite?
“Actually I love all the X-Men characters, so It would be really hard for me to pick one, but I would go for Professor X and Storm from the X-Men and Mystique from the Brotherhood. Others are great too though.”
Do you have a favorite film in the series that you watch the most?
“All the films are usually on the loop, but ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ is the one I have been playing the most because it brings two worlds of X-Men together, something which I doubt would be happening in future movies. So this is a rare thing and has a repeat value.”
It’s my favorite too and I think you’re right about its uniqueness and why it’s so special. It has so many great scenes. In your opinion, what are the strengths and weaknesses of these films?
“The strength of X-Men films are the scripts, narration and the way they are told. ‘X-Men,’ ‘X2,’ ‘Days of Future Past’ and ‘Logan’ all are remarkable films and deserve all the applauses they get. On the weaker side, the only complaint I have from the franchise is that the focus is too much on Wolverine. If we take the Animated series or the comics, all the characters were given prominence. But in the films, only Wolverine remains the main attraction. He also gets his own spin off movies. Other characters easily get overshadowed with less screentime. After all, it’s X-MEN. Also Rogue’s character has been one of the weaknesses if we really compare to her comic and animated counterparts. Fans wanted to see her in action by embracing her powers and acting like a true X-Man, which didn’t quite happen. But there is a hope for future films. But these are minor glitches. X-Men films stand tall with quality and grace and I look forward to each and every film.”
Are there any scenes from any of the films that you wish didn’t exist?
“Without a doubt – the death of Professor X in ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’. That scene rips my heart apart every time I watch that. What’s more disheartening is that he dies at the hands of his most beloved student, Jean Grey, whose mind has been taken over by her alter ego ‘The Phoenix’.”
A lot of people don’t like that scene, but to be honest, it’s one of my favorites! I like that it shows how out of control Jean truly was. With ‘X3’ being the last film fully devoted to the original cast and with them having a smaller presence in ‘Days of Future Past,’ would you like to see those actors return for another film where they get all the attention?
“Of course, they must keep the original cast in future films. Not only they would help in connecting with the audiences in a more accurate manner, but also make the films stronger. The previous cast has an ensemble of really strong and beloved actors and I doubt if anyone who loves X-Men would not like to see them back.”
It would be great if they could integrate the original cast in ‘Deadpool 2,’ since the timelines could synch up. 2018 is going to be a busy year with that film, New Mutants and ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix.’ Which one are you looking forward to the most?
“I am looking forward to all, but ‘X-Men : Dark Phoenix’ tops the list as it will be the continuation from the last film and I can barely hold my excitement to see how things are uncovered.”
Same here! It’s going to be an epic film. Final question, just for fun…the X-Men or Brotherhood of Mutants? Which side would you join if these events took place in our reality?
“I love X-Men of course, although I do not hate Magneto and his brotherhood. I understand what he went through with his childhood and his hatred towards humans is understandable, but sometimes he seems to hurt even mutants in the process of taking revenge. So I would be on the side of X-Men any day.”
Me too, fellow X-Man! Thanks for the great chat.

Note - This Review has Spoilers
Everyone's favourite spider-man has arrived and has hit the theaters already. Swinging through the hearts from the likes of children to young blood to grandfathers, it has managed to capture the cheers all over again. There is no doubt about that. But since this is my review I would like to take a more sophisticated and an honest take on the movie. I liked the film no doubt. Its definitely a pop-corn blockbuster but more than that it has lot to offer and also many things where it missed the mark..more on that later. Let's begin
Well to begin with, let me clarify that Spider-man remains one of my favourite superheroes since childhood. Not one of them, it is actually the most favourite one. I have seen Spiderman only in animated media and comics where the red and blue suit fascinated me a lot. It's only time when Sam Raimi brought Spider-man to life on such a huge canvas and it was a big success, his fantastic run with Tobey Maguire playing Spider-man ended with Spiderman 3. And then followed Marc Webb's version of Spidi featuring Andrew Garfiled. The first movie was pretty impressive to say the least but the second one skipped a beat but still was a decent watch and now Sony has again re-invented the franchise bringing Tom Holland as Spiderman in Spider-man Homecoming. There is no confusion that Spiderman has already made an appearance in Captain America : Civil War and now featuring in his solo movie. It's quite an idea by Sony to put Spider-man directly in MCU universe and their gamble played off well.
Let me say this ! Spider-man homecoming is a good film no doubt. The fans gonna love with critics also ga ga going over it. I personally enjoyed the movie too and I don't think there is anything precisely to be critical about. However, all in all I would say, it's a decent watch. It's definitely a good movie but don't expect surprises. Just expect popcorn entertainment and you wouldn't complain at all. My only point is that the film doesn't offer anything new or throw surprises. It's all about 'been there...seen it already' hangover that you go through the entire movie. but on the positive side, you would not complain because the film is fun.
One more thing here that Spiderman is dominated by Robert Downey Jr. who appears in a cameo yet a very poignant one. Definitely, it's a smart move by the producers to attract more eyeballs. Tom Holland makes a great Spiderman err...calling him Spider-Boy would be apt though. His innocence strikes the right balance between vulnerability and uncompromising strength. As Peter Parker too, he exhibits great charm. Watch him in the scenes where he comes back to his usual life after his suit being taken away and trying to be normal. And the scene where he gets in huge trouble and reminded by Iron Man's words to gain strength and fight back. Those scenes are amazingly executed.
The supporting cast is also superb to say the least. Jacob Batalon rocks as Peter's best overweight gamer best friend 'Ned'. He is also an expert in computer hacking. His charm is infectious as such that he practically steals every scene he is in. Marisa Tomei as May Parker as Efficient and so as Zendaya playing Michelle "MJ" Jones. However, you would wish her character had more to explore. The cinematography is brilliant. The action scenes are picturized very well particularly the fight scene between Spidi and Vulture just in the second hour.
The VFX of every action film have a lot of significance and this movie is no different. With lots of special effects it scores full marks. The fans and those who are not fans shall love it. And about the action who wouldn't love Iron Man and Spider-man coming together saving the day. However, the fight scene during the climax went overstretched and could have been a little more better. The film could have explored another dimensions of Spiderman we hadn't seen before but it sticks to the basic plot we have seen in other movies. This movie deals about how the teen Spidi gets in trouble understanding his powers and later mastering them
Micheal Keaton is riveting as Vulture. So good to see him in a blockbuster movie after a long time. And he doesn't disappoint at all. Well known for playing the heroic Batman. He infuses the right amount of creepiness in Vulture however like in the most descriptions given about his character, he actually does not have criminal tendencies. (SPOILER AHEAD) One of the biggest disappointment of the film comes at the climax where Spiderman easily nails him down and he's sort of giving up finally and you know...that jars a bit that a man who can do anything to give good life to his family would be defeated only to get humiliated for the rest of his life. I mean this movie deserved a better climax. This is what I feel.
Spiderman is fun and that's it. There are no morals of using powers and responsibility, very little drama and hardly any scope of melodrama. The film offers entertainment, entertainment and entertainment. And if this is what you have been looking for. Do not Miss it at all.
My Rating 3:5 / 5
This painting of Indian Actress Drashti Dhami made in 2012 garnered a lot of praise. At that time I was working on the Animated Geet Series, and the first promo met with an amazing response however, due to some reasons the series could not materialize.
The main job of a painting is to capture the right essence of the face, its mood and its attitude. All three things needed to be done correctly and you get the picture right. This is one of my favourite creations. I again thank all people for the appreciation at that time..I had also converted this image into 3D later.
